Having never heard of blogging until quite recently, I proceed with great
caution. This post is really for novices and intermediates. Tell me what your
bid should be?
You hold the following hands. The bidding has proceeded: 1C – Pass- Pass to
you
1. S Qx H AJ10 D Kxxx C QJ109
2. S Qxx H AJ10 D KQX C AJ9x
3. S Q5432 H xx D AQxx C xx
4. S Axx H Axxx D Q10x Cxxx
5. S KQ10xx H xx D AKQx C xx
6. S xx H AQx D xxx C AQJ98
And now tell me what your bid would have been if the bidding had proceeded 1C on your right?
More later!

Welcome to the Blog Barbara. Balancing is a great topic and it is one that Isabelle and I have been discussing recently.
Best wishes, Linda
1. S Qx H AJ10 D Kxxx C QJ109 pass
2. S Qxx H AJ10 D KQX C AJ9x double
3. S Q5432 H xx D AQxx C xx 2 clubs
4. S Axx H Axxx D Q10x Cxxx pass
5. S KQ10xx H xx D AKQx C xx two clubs
6. S xx H AQx D xxx C AQJ98 pass
Welcome to blogging!
1. S Qx H AJ10 D Kxxx C QJ109
1NT (12-14 in balancing seat)
pass in direct overcall seat
2. S Qxx H AJ10 D KQX C AJ9x
double, then bid 1NT to show 15-17 in balancing seat
1NT immediately in direct overcall seat
3. S Q5432 H xx D AQxx C xx
1S (with shortness in clubs and 5-card major, a little stretch in balancing seat)
pass in direct seat. Spade suit is horrible; you don’t really want it led.
4. S Axx H Axxx D Q10x Cxxx
In balancing seat, tough call between pass and double. My decision probably depends on vulnerability.
In direct overcall seat, pass.
5. S KQ10xx H xx D AKQx C xx
1S in both seats.
6. S xx H AQx D xxx C AQJ98
Pass in balancing seat. Partner who is short in clubs could not act, so just pass.
In direct seat, pass, hoping that partner will double back in (trap pass).
p.s. Simply listing the cards is very hard to read. This site has some very good tools to display hand diagrams (I use those tools even though I don’t blog here!)
